Week 1

So I am a dumb-dumb for a couple of reasons:
  1. I didn't look at the calendar correctly.  I thought last week was the first week for half-marathon training, when it is really this week!  Oh well - a little extra exercise never hurt anyone.
  2. While I was half awake Thursday morning getting dressed to go to the gym, I put my workout pants on BACKWARDS and didn't realize it until I was already half way through my workout.  No wonder my pants felt funny...

Week one consisted of:
  • Monday
    • 50 minutes of Zumba
  • Tuesday
    • 30 minutes of weight lifting - Triceps, back, obliques
    • 30 minute run
  • Wednesday
    • 30 minutes of weight lifting -Legs, abs
    • Swimming at the pool.  Well, more like playing at the pool...
  • Thursday
    • 30 minutes of weight lifting - Chest, shoulders, abs
    • Supposed to do a 30 minute run, but had an infertility seminar downtown which lasted from 6:00pm until 9:00pm and then we still had to eat dinner... so pushed my run to Friday!
  • Friday
    • Nothing
  • Saturday
    • 30 minute run
  • Sunday
    • Rest!
Tuesday I ran around the neighborhood for my 30 minutes.  The training materials state I need to be able to hold a conversation while running, so I did.  I ran at a slower pace than normal, but would have been able to have a conversation.  In 30 minutes I ran 2.5 miles.  12 minute mile!  YIKES!  I guess you have to start somewhere.  I am still under the required 15 mile for the race, but I have some work to do.

I usually run inside which is part of the reason I think I ran a 12 minute mile. I am going to try to keep my runs outside, weather permitting, so I can re-acclimate to running on pavement and in the outside air. The humidity outside really affects my asthma, which is really frustrating. Most of the time if I puff-puff my inhaler before I run I feel like I can breath much better! I am glad Fall is coming. I can breathe much easier outside with the cold air in my lungs. The air burns but feel sooooo good.

Saturday I ran around the neighborhood again, but this time ran 2.7 miles in 30 minutes which equals 11.11 minute mile.  I ran in the morning before the humity hit which I think helped.

Week two will be similar to week one, except no Zumba on Monday due to Labor Day and my run on Saturday will be longer.

I also measured at the gym on Wednesday morning.  I am the smallest I have been since I began training in January.  That is wonderful news.  I think/hope I will shed some more pounds and tone even more adding my half-marathon training to the mix.

Happy trails!
