This is my new toy! I have always wanted to learn to sew. My mother used to make us clothes when we were little. Yes - I was the kid in the home grown neon colored jams! :). She recently made us a beautiful Christmas tree skirt and incredible drapes for our master bath. I will get an idea in my head and go by the materials I like, tell mom what I want and in a few hours, Voila! I have something amazingly beautiful and unique!
I have been looking at taking sewing classes at our local community center, Crooked Creek Park, but you have to have a sewing machine to take the class. I had no idea which machine to buy, and I didn't want to spend a lot because I was worried if I didn't like sewing or just wasn't good at it, I didn't want to be out of a ton of money.
Well, the stars must have been aligned in my favor. A sorority sister from college got a new machine and was selling hers that she had barely used for $60! I thought hey, I can be out $60 if it is something that I just don't like doing. She lives in LaGrange, Georgia, so we will pick it up from her on our way to Auburn the first weekend in March (headed to Auburn for my FAVORITE cousin's wedding!!).
We bought a nice painting from the Starving Artist sale last weekend ($50 - can't beat it with a stick!) to hang in our breakfast area.
My *plan* is to learn how to sew and make some pretty amazing drapes to hang in the bay window directly across from where we are hanging this picture. I have all kinds of ideas! I need to look at fabrics. I love the bright colors in this painting. I am thinking a sturdy canvas fabric and I am trying to decide between stripes and polka dots. OF COURSE it will have some sort of fringe :).I am excited to get my new toy and see what my sewing aptitude is. One of the big reasons I want to learn to sew is if and when we ever get pregnant, I want to make the bedding and curtains for little Baby Kay. I hope that will be the case one day!

I'm teaching myself to sew too! I'm making curtains for Baby Boy's room (I'm going to do a post about them soon) and I've made pillows (pretty easy, just straight lines!) but I've also found great things on pinterest. If you're not on, let me know, I've got invites I can send :) Good luck and enjoy. I've fallen in love with sewing!!!!
