Christmas 2011 Summary

Christmas just felt like it came and left so quickly this year.  I didn't do a very good job of photo-documenting Christmas, so this will be more of a Christmas Season summary post.  I made Beer Bread for our neighbors and my co-workers from a great recipe I got from a dear friend, Misty.

I packaged the bread with wired Christmas ribbon and added either a pack of Wind & Willow spicy buffalo dip or a jar of French jam.  It turned out to be a really beautiful gift.

Here is the recipe for those who would like to try it!
  • 3 cups self-rising flour
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 12 oz beer (I use Yuengling)
  • 2 TBSP butter (melted)

Mix the flour, sugar and beer together. Dough will be sticky. Place dough in a greased loaf pan and pour melted butter on top of dough. Bake at 375 for about 55 minutes or until the bread pulls from the side of the pan. Cool in pan for 10 minutes and then finish cooling on rack.

I have added a cup of cheese before which makes it a little different and just as yummy.  I am thinking about adding cheddar cheese and chopped jalapenos to make a jalapeno beer cheese bread.

We hosted a Christmas Party in our new home.  I took a few picture of the outside of the house before the guests arrived, but forgot to take them inside before and during the party.  We had about 30-40 people over.  Everyone brought an appetizer or dessert to share.  The weather was cool enough to be able to enjoy the outside.  It was a perfect evening with great friends.

This is a picture of some of the kids at the house who were playing on their (or their parent's) technologies.

The following two pictures are the only two pictures I took from Christmas Eve/Day!  How horrible! And I didn't even take the plastic cover off the food before I took this picture!
Mr. Bo was ready for Santa
Mom and Dad came to our house for Christmas Eve.  We opened presents Christmas Eve night after church.  We got up early Christmas morning and drove to Greenville to go to church with Wade's Nana and then did Christmas with his Nana and then Christmas with his Mom and Dad.  I was pooped by the time we go home.

Wade got me the sweetest present a couple of days before Christmas.  On the anniversary of when we learned of our baby's death, he brought me home a Poinsettia and said that he wanted to get me something to let me know he remembered and that he cared.  He said he got a Poinsettia because it is the flower of the season and you buy them in honor or memory of someone you love, and this one he got in memory of our baby.  I could not have asked for a better or more thoughtful gift.  That is what Christmas is all about.

I hope your Christmas season was filled with wonderful memories complete with moments that reminded you of the true meaning of Christmas.
