Our local hospital, Lexington Medical Center, submitted an entry, and it is incredible to watch. They clearly spent a lot of time and money to make this video what it is. What is especially moving is the breast cancer survivors they show towards the end of the video. As the granddaughter of two grandmothers who lost the battle and the niece of an aunt who lost the battle in addition to being the daughter and niece of two survivors (another Aunt and my Mother), this really gets to me! Someone put all this time and energy into this to raise awareness and money to continue to help find a cure. My mother was diagnosed at the exact same time as my head injury, so we both can claim the word survivor during the same time period, in two very different ways. Emotional time.
Short story/perspective for those who have not walked the walk - I went with Mom the day she had the rest of her hair shaved off at the cancer center. As they were buzzing her, she said that she felt like she was in a concentration camp. Awful, but poinent analogy. So much of who we are as women is tied into our physical make up - our hair. Think on that today, and what that would be like if it was taken from you because of this awful disease called breast cancer. Mom has ALL of her hair back now, and I hope and pray she can keep it that way!!
The words to Firework, which is the song they are dancing to, have always struck me and made my heart beat a little faster. It is about finding your inner strength and self worth. Love it. Perfect description of the breast cancer journey for the survivors and those who walked along side of them.
I encourage you to watch this video and "vote" so all of Lexington Medical Center's hard work and dedication can allow them to make a BIG donation to the charity of their choice, The Vera Bradley Foundation. Shameless plug - it is important to go to the doctor and get your check-ups! You never know when something like this can happen to you, and the earlier you catch it, the better chance for survival! Thank you LMC for making this extra special video. It means a lot to me!

Firework Lyrics (again - what would I do without MUSIC!)
"Firework"
Do you ever feel like a plastic bag,
drifting through the wind
wanting to start again?
Do you ever feel, feel so paper thin
like a house of cards,
one blow from caving in?
Do you ever feel already buried deep?
6 feet under screams but no one seems to hear a thing
Do you know that there's still a chance for you
'Cause there's a spark in you
You just gotta ignite, the light, and let it shine
Just own the night like the 4th of July
'Cause baby you're a firework
Come on, show 'em what you're worth
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh"
As you shoot across the sky-y-y
Baby, you're a firework
Come on, let your colors burst
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh"
You're gonna leave 'em all in awe, awe, awe
You don't have to feel like a waste of space
You're original, cannot be replaced
If you only knew what the future holds
After a hurricane comes a rainbow
Maybe your reason why all the doors are closed
So you could open one that leads you to the perfect road
Like a lightning bolt, your heart will glow
And when it's time, you'll know
You just gotta ignite, the light, and let it shine
Just own the night like the 4th of July
'Cause baby you're a firework
Come on, show 'em what you're worth
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh"
As you shoot across the sky-y-y
Baby, you're a firework
Come on, let your colors burst
Make 'em go "Oh, Oh, Oh"
You're gonna leave 'em all in awe, awe, awe
Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
It's always been inside of you, you, you
And now it's time to let it through-ough-ough
'Cause baby you're a firework
Come on, show 'em what you're worth
Make 'em go "Oh, Oh, Oh"
As you shoot across the sky-y-y
Baby, you're a firework
Come on, let your colors burst
Make 'em go "Oh, Oh, Oh"
You're gonna leave 'em all in awe, awe, awe
